If you’ve tried to write your own Ebook, whether as a giveaway, a full blown product – you’ve probably encountered a few all too common (yet easily solved) problems…
This is part of the “Internet Marketing Basics” series of posts, so today, we’ll look at what it is that seperates the “struggling to get by” info-marketers vs 7 figure online moguls.
There must be some reason for the difference in level of success, right?
There is.
Fortunately, there are 3 “core” reasons why people often give up trying to make their own products, and go for being an affiliate instead.
While there’s nothing wrong with that, the key idea that I preach here at IMLabz.com is that to reach the top of the success ladder – YOU must be the one with leverage. That means as an info-product creator, you are responsible for a lot more (like setting up tools, affiliate pages, etc up so OTHERS can promote it for a commission).
What’s easier:
a) Selling a product that 100 people are promoting
b) Having your own product, then getting 100 people to promote it?
Exactly. (hypothetical question)
So let’s get cracking with the internet marketing basics of creating an Ebook that sells. Here are three “core” elements that every information product needs – from $7 reports to full blown blueprints you can sell at a hefty price.
Core Element #1 KEEP it short and to the point.
By far the biggest mistake ebook writers make is “assuming” their project must be “x” number of pages in length.
In other words, they put a “value” on the number of pages, such as 50 pages or 100 pages or even 200 pages in order for it to be desirable to consumers.
While the “thud” factor (volume) might be important to some people, most of the time, people just want you to cut through the bullshit and just tell them what they need to know.
Those types of customers aren’t good for business anyway. They don’t see the VALUE in your product, and would settle for an inferior product if it had more “thud” to it as I mentioned earlier.
The ability to articulate your thoughts, plans, actions – into whatever you’re selling – is crucial if you want to be successful in the information business. Especially today in our fast-paced, “magic pill” (instant gratifaction) society.
And not only does keeping it short and concise help your customers, it helps YOU too.
Chances are you are much more likely to write a 30 page report and get it done, rather than attempting to create a 200 page masterpiece.
Your first key to success is “keep it concise”. Share what you need to share in the least amount of pages as possible.
This doesn’t have to turn out like a novel to be successful.
Core Element #2 Be passionate about what you’re writing about.
Yeah, I know – being “passionate” isn’t as easy as some make it out to be.
But it doesn’t have to be difficult either.
That’s what the internet marketing basics is all about – The point is, if you enjoy your “work” then you are much more likely to complete your ebooks than those who write about subjects they can’t stand!
Don’t make it high school all over again when you don’t have to
But seriously, don’t underestimate what I’m saying here.
You’ll get much more done as a writer if you’re actually interested, and have fun with the subject matter.
That’s probably one of the funnest things about information publishing. You choose what market you want to enter. YOU get to pick the topic some may be clueless about, and sell them information on it (as long as people actually want it – which you should know by now if you did your market research right!)
It’s important to choose topics that are in demand and have a rabid audience who are willing to purchase them.
Weight loss, dating, and golf are 3 enormous markets with unlimited potential. Don’t mind the guys out there saying they are too “saturated”.
The way I look at it is like this: Even if you get a small slice, you can still earn a MASSIVE income from dialing down and creating mini reports that people want.
I’d never take it on as a project of mine unless I got some sense of enjoyment in writing about it, and you shouldn’t either.
Instead, look for those things that you are already talking about anyway. And then write what you’ve been talking about.
Core Element #3 Finish your Ebook as soon as possible.
Remember the story of the turtoise and the hare?
Unfortately, times have changed – and neither are going to win this virtual race.
That is, unless they change their strategy.
There are 2 main “types” I’ve met in the online marketing world…
- Those who go too fast, never finishing anything completely, or falling short of the finish line
- Those who go too slow, and eventually keep changing strategies
They begin their projects like the Olympic shotgun just got fired. They get a million and one ideas to create the “ultimate” product. And usually, they get discouraged or lose their steam half way through. If only they stuck to the internet marketing basics!
Before they know it, they’re standing on the sidelines watching others succeed and make names (and big money) for themselves.
Here’s my GOLDEN rule for Ebook writers (and product creators in general).
Never start something you can’t finish in 30 days.
Choose a hot topic and outline it in such a way that you can complete the content within a month or less. This way, you can have the drive and enthusiasm left in you to make that step over the finish line – and begin marketing your product. Don’t let it sit on your virtual shelf, otherwise you’ll have wasted all your time and effort!
Think about it like this: If you wrote just 1 page every day, you’d have a killer 30 page report every month. So what if you wrote 2,3, or even 4 pages?
Easy enough, right? Well stop theorizing about your book and just get into it. You can always edit and tweak stuff later – just get your main point across as soon as possible.
Oh yeah – Hoorah!
You just hauled ass unlike many fly on the wall “marketers” who talk big, but don’t have anything to show for it.
By the way, if you haven’t already subscribed – I suggest you get on NOW. In a few weeks, I’ll be launching some killer “mindmaps” which you can use to make sense of all the information out there. If you can’t beat it (information overload), then at least you’ll learn how to digest it better, apply more action, and push through the most common “blocks” new and hopeful internet marketers encounter.
Subscribers will have dibs on it – so get yourself onto my list fool!
